Some tumors found in this area are called polyps are not cancerous; however, tumors that are malignant are cancer. The polyps can be removed without the worry of spreading the disease, as they are not cancerous. Cancer of the colon or rectum on the other hand, can spread to other areas of the body and tissue. This occurs when cancer cells break away from the tumor and travel to other areas of the body, which is called metastasis, and can spread to the liver or the lungs. After metastasis occurs, the prognosis for a full recovery is dim.
The causes of Colon Cancer

As with practically all cancers, the exact causes are not known, however, risk factors that are present may help lead scientists to the answer. The risk factors for developing colon cancer include the following.

Diet

Individuals that eat a diet high in fat are at a higher risk of developing colon cancer. Those that eat a balanced diet and include such things as whole grains, fruits, and vegetables decrease their chances of developing colon cancer.

Colon polyps

Physicians believe that untreated polyps develop into colon cancer. In the majority of cases, these polyps are benign; however, over years without being removed the cells can change due to chromosome damage, which can become cancerous.

Ulcerative colitis

Ulcerative colitis can be a cause of colon cancer. This disorder brings on inflammation to the inner lining of the colon. In the majority of individuals with ulcerative colitis their chances of colon cancer begins to increase after 8 to 10 years of living with the disorder. Research shows colon cancer and individuals with ulcerative colitis include after 10 years 2.5% had colon cancer, after 30 years the rate rose to 7.6%, and after 50 years, it had risen to 10.8%.

Heredity

Past history of relatives with colon cancer increases the risk of this type of cancer. However, 80 percent of all patients do not have a family history of the disease.

Symptoms of Colon Cancer

Many people do not realize they have colon cancer due to the fact that the symptoms may not be present for many years after the development of the cancer cells. The symptoms can differ according to the location of the cancer or the tumor. The right colon is very large and in most cases, the symptoms are not apparent except for the possibility of becoming anemic due to iron deficiency due to the cancer. The left colon on the other hand is smaller and can cause partial or complete obstruction of the bowel bringing on constipation, diarrhea, cramps, bloating, and abdominal pain.

The main symptoms that are present with colon cancer include weakness, fatigue, change in bowel movements, shortness of breath, diarrhea, constipation, weight loss, cramps, bloating, abdominal pain, irritable bowel syndrome, peptic ulcer disease, Crohn's disease, ulcerative colitis, and diverticulosis.

About the Author
Amdre Smith is a webmaster that runs the site Howtoall, a site with how to advice and tips. Feeling Unattractive

Body dysmorphic disorder also may be present with an eating disorder, such as anorexia nervosa or bulimia nervosa, especially if it involves a weight-related part of the body, such as the waist, hips or thighs. You may fanatically compare yourself with the appearance of others to continue to evaluate your appearance see how you look. You may feel tormented by this. Often people suffering with anorexia and body dysmorphic disorder compare themselves to anyone who is in the same age group. In this comparison almost always they see themselves as less than the other person.

2. Anxiety

Anxiety and self-conscious around others because of an imagined defect in your body is one of the major symptoms of BDD. Social isolation social phobia and other negative impacts, can cause major difficulties in functioning. These can include refusing to do daily activities such as school or work as well as lead to being homebound due to the feeling that you do not measure up to other people based on your looks.

3. Obsessive Compulsive Disorder

Body dysmorphic disorder often associated with obsessive-compulsive disorder. If you have OCD, you may experience pounding uncontrollably thoughts about your body being fat. The only way to rid yourself of these thoughts may be to restrict your eating to very little amounts of caloric intake in a day. A history of or genetic predisposition to obsessive-compulsive disorder may make you more vulnerable to BDD.

4. Low Self-Esteem

You may feel if you can just look perfect on the outside other people will find you appealing and you will not get rejected. If you are rejected however, you may be unable to look at the objective situation and blame yourself. You may feel you are not good enough. This is often related with low self-esteem, shame and embarrassment which gets focused on your body rather than on yourself as a total person.

5.Psychological, Behavioral or cultural factors

You may feel less than others in your family or you may feel your parents expectations of you are than you are able to do. At times when people cannot perform to the degree that is expected academically or in professional environments, they tend to try to make their body perfect. People from families of higher socioeconomic status or strict cultural standards may experience body dysmorphic disorder more often. Someone who feels that he or she must live up to unobtainable or unrealistically high expectations for personal appearance and success may be more prone to BDD.

http://www.eatingdisordersadvisor.com

Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/?expert=Karen_Chambre

Glucosamine For Arthritis

Synthesized internally and generally found in the human body, glucosamine is an amino sugar, a small molecule which is easily absorbed by the blood stream. These stressors differ in their origin and nature. Some of them could be internal. A good example of internal stressor could be a lack of confidence to do a particular bit of work. At times, it could be external in nature. A student feeling 'tensed' due to his exams is an example of external pressure.
These stressors can affect a person in varying proportions and for varied duration of time. Stress is inevitable and what is scary is that it can affect each person in different ways. There is no uniform definition of symptoms for stress. Stress may be a major factor in causing illnesses that could be fatal at times. Researchers are of the opinion that stress disrupts the body's homeostasis or the state of equilibrium, thus resulting in the weakening of the immune system.

Constant degradation of the body's defense mechanism can lead to serious illnesses. Thus, stress itself is recognized a medical condition. A common example of stress as a result of trauma is seen in soldiers post war conditions. Post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) was known as shell shock during the First World War I and battle fatigue after World War II. Patients of PTSD complained depression, nightmares, feelings of guilt for having survived, and flashbacks of the horrific events. Some of them became sensitive to noise and some even became violent.

Stress is thus, known to affect the normal functioning of the body. As a result, it can cause severe illnesses. Some of the known physical signs are a dry mouth and throat, tightening of the neck and back muscles, chronic neck and back pain, indigestion, headaches, muscle tics, tremors, insomnia and fatigue. A wear down of the emotional functioning is also a result of stress. During stress, patients experience a quickening of heartbeats, increase in blood pressure and the body releases adrenaline, which fastens the body's rate of metabolism. If this situation continues for prolonged periods, it results in a weakening of the immune system.

Thus, stress has been recognized as a form of illness to be regarded with due seriousness. Though stress itself does not signify a particular disease with perfectly known symptoms, it can trigger the onset of a variety of diseases. Different people will be affected differently by stress.

About the Author
Leading Expert on posttraumatic stress and the creator of stress in work place solutions. The causes behind skin allergies are not only the rise of the pollutant levels in the air, but there are other causes. These causes include skin contact with gold, balsam fragrance, nickel, cobalt chloride and fragrances, to name just a few.
Nickel is used in buttons and jewelry, but someone can also have contact with cobalt chloride with the use of antiperspirants and hair dyes. Allergies can be defined as the malfunction of the immune system of a body which causes a hypersensitive reaction by the contact of a benign substance.

By carrying out an allergy test, one can easily discover the substance that could be causing the adverse reaction to the body. Skin allergies can also be a result of an intake of particular food items that might not suit your body type. Peanut oil is one of the most common ingredients that cause allergies.

There are various types of skin allergies that can attack a person. These include:

- Hives and Swelling: Hives, popularly known as 'Urticaria', is a rash that causes itching. The person can be attacked by this itchy rash at any age. Red bumps appear on the skin in various sizes and shapes and can last for a few minutes to a few hours. Scratching the rash also leads to bleeding and swelling. It is a common problem suffered along with the hives. The swelling is not irritating but it causes a tingling and burning sensation.

- Eczema: This skin allergy is normally experienced by young children. It occurs when a person scratches his skin. The rash has oozes and bumps and causes severe pain in case of severe scratching.

- Contact dermatitis: This type of skin allergy is caused when the body comes in contact with some harmful substance such as certain metals, cosmetics or hair dyes. Common body parts where this rash occurs are the neck, feet, hands and eyelids.

In order to find the main culprit behind your skin allergy, it is important to note and find out the main causes behind it. Suppose that you are allergic to coffee, it is better to switch over to tea or another hot beverage. Apart from eliminating the exposure or contact to the toxins, it is also important to re-build your own immune system so as to protect yourself from getting skin allergies.

Natural treatments should be opted for as they eliminate the risk of getting skin allergies completely rather than treating them on a temporary basis. The natural treatments use natural extracts so that there are no side effects and the cost of the medication is also reasonable.

Therefore, if you are facing the problem of skin allergies, start with an allergy test so that the main causes or toxins can be detected. As soon as you know the main culprit, stay away from it and opt for natural or other medical treatments.

About the Author
The article is written by Nammy Mike. The infection is usually caused by a virus or bacteria. Sore throats can also be caused by allergies and tobacco smoke. A sore throat can be a symptom of many different medical disorders.
A sore throat is a common and minor condition in which the back of the throat becomes irritated in most cases (90% of them) is cause by a virus, such as the one that causes colds and flu or the bacteria that cause strep infection. In cases of bacterial or viral infections most antibiotics are ineffective.

Treating bacterial infections - At one time, doctors automatically treated all sore throats with antibiotics, both to cure the infection and to prevent dangerous complications such as rheumatic fever. Now, doctors are much less likely to prescribe medication because the overuse of antibiotics has led to an increase in antibiotic-resistant strains of bacteria. What's more, antibiotics such as penicillin do little to hasten recovery from strep throat or to reduce signs and symptoms, and they don't prevent infections from recurring. Be sure your doctor performs a rapid strep test before prescribing any antibiotic for a sore throat.

Cinnamon is regarded as an effective remedy for a sore throat resulting from a cold. One teaspoon of coarsely powdered cinnamon, boiled in a glass of water with a pinch of pepper powder, and two teaspoons of honey can be taken as a medicine in the treatment of this condition. Two or three drops of cinnamon oil, mixed with a teaspoon of honey, also give immense relief.

Liquorice is a recognized home remedy for sore throat in all parts of India. A small piece of raw liquorice should he chewed or sucked for treating this condition. The healing property of the herb soothes inflammation quickly.

If your child has repeated infections of the tonsils (tonsillitis), a tonsillectomy may be considered. A tonsillectomy is a surgical procedure where the tonsils are removed from the throat. See the 'related articles' section for more information about tonsillitis.

Surgical drainage of an abscess behind a tonsil (peritonsillar abscess) or between the spine and pharynx (retropharyngeal abscess) is required in rare cases. Tonsillectomy or surgical removal of the tonsils is occasionally indicated for tonsillitis that returns often (once a month).

Gargle with cayenne pepper and water mixture: 1/2 - 2 tsp. cayenne per glass of water, as strong as you can stand. Repeat as necessary, multiple times a day. Numbs and releives really bad sore throats.

Warm a cup of milk, add a teaspoon of turmeric powder and a teaspoon of sugar. Drink this 3 times a day.

Bacterial infection, especially from streptococcal bacteria (strep throat). Symptoms are much like those of a viral infection but may be more severe and long lasting. Often a bacterial infection is accompanied by headache, stomachache, and swollen glands in the neck. A strep infection is generally treated with antibiotics because permanent heart or kidney damage can result. Culturing the bacteria is the only way a doctor can determine the cause of the sore throat.

Read about home remedies, natural remedies, home remedy .Read about health care, beauty tips makeup tips and home remedies

About the Author
Peterhutch

The Difference Between Anxiety Attacks And Anxiety Reactions

Ninety-five-percent of Americans experience Anxiety Reactions occasionally while five-percent are battling to survive Anxiety Attacks almost on a daily basis. In which group are you?
There are many symptoms associated with anxiety, anxiety attacks, panic attacks, anxiety disorders, stress disorders, sleep disorders, and depression. And, because we are all unique, based upon physical and mental history, the symptoms and their intensity will vary from person to person.

Symptoms of anxiety attack include shortness of breath, chest discomfort, dizziness, fear of death, or going crazy, nausea or stomach distress, just to mention the most serious symptoms. Not all these symptoms will be present for everyone at any given time because we are all different in our mental and physical makeup.

Each of us experiences different kinds of symptoms during anxiety attacks. Some people mistake anxiety attacks for mental illness because it is a condition that can involve extreme amounts of stress and anxiety. When an attack occurs, the sufferer seems unable maintain any kind of control over thought and action. They are rendered helpless. They think they are going out of their mind.

Are you suffering from an actual anxiety "attack" or just having a normal anxiety "reaction" to a given situation?

Anxiety attacks are the most extreme example of an anxiety reaction. When anxiety reaches a level at which the sufferer experiences symptoms which exceed those experienced during a normal anxiety reaction, an anxiety attack is underway.

For example, when preparing to give a speech, a normal anxiety reaction or an abnormal anxiety attack may occur. The normal person may get "butterflies in the stomach" or experience an intense fear of failure. The normal person pushes through the symptoms and gives the speech.

On the other hand, the person who experiences an anxiety attack is unable to give the speech. They are paralyzed by fear and panic. In fact, just the thought of giving a speech would cause them to refuse to even attempt it. Thus, an anxiety "reaction" is normal for ninety-five-percent of us. An anxiety attack is not for the five-percent among us.

What treatments are available?

Doctors have learned that many medications such as Zoloft or Paxil have a calming effect on the processes that control or trigger anxiety and compulsions. These medications keep hormones and other elements responsible for anxiety attacks balanced, so to speak. They work well in a majority of cases regardless of the type of anxiety, be it panic attacks, social anxiety disorder, or even obsessive compulsive disorder.

Anxiety attacks are also helped with cognitive or behavioral therapy, meaning the learning of new ways of thinking or behaving. If someone can learn that their anxiety attacks are the result of how they think or of how they view some circumstance, then they can lessen these attacks. Learning how to talk themselves through a panic attack or how to calm their obsessive or compulsive behavior can go a long way toward keeping anxiety attacks under control, or at the very least, keeping them in their place so that they have less of an effect on the sufferer.

What are common physical symptoms?

Physical symptoms may cause people who actually have "anxiety sensitivity" to have an anxiety attack. These sufferers tend to panic when they feel their heart beating faster or feel other bodily sensations they consider to be out of the ordinary. Anything that raises the heartbeat can cause them to have an anxiety attack. This includes physical exercise and chemicals such as caffeine and nicotine.

During normal physical exercise, you want to elevate your heart rate, but, if you are prone to anxiety attacks, this should be avoided.

Although anxiety attack symptoms seem threatening - no real threat is actually present - these symptoms occur without an obvious outward cause and, therefore, do not represent reality or something to be truly afraid of. Anxiety attacks are usually not a response to an actual threat but make the sufferer "feel" threatened by an imaginary threat.

Because the sufferer believes there is a real threat, credibility is given to the perceived threat and more anxiety is created. This produces more symptoms and an anxiety cycle is put into motion. In effect, the false reality feeds into a greater false reality and greater fear until a full blown attack is underway.

What can you do?

If you're someone that suffers from anxiety attacks in any form, it's strongly encouraged that you speak with your doctor to determine the actual cause of the attacks or whether you are jusy having a normal reaction and something physical is causing your distress. Many times, symptoms can be an indicator of serious health problems that have nothing to do with anxiety disorder. Only your doctor can make that diagnosis.

If you do have anxiety disorder, medication or therapy are usually indicated. At the very least, you can be put in touch with others who are suffering from the same symptoms in order to get support and encouragement for your condition.

Jim DeSantis

About the Author
Jim DeSantis is a retired Pastoral Counselor. It affects the way you eat and sleep, the way you feel about yourself, and the way you think about things. A depressive disorder is not the same as a passing blue mood. It is not a sign of personal weakness or a condition that can be willed or wished away. People with a depressive illness cannot merely "pull themselves together" and get better. Without treatment, symptoms can last for weeks, months, or years. Appropriate treatment, however, can help most people who suffer from depression.
There are many different causes and factors that contribute to depression and each will be unique to the individual who experiences it. Sometimes the cause is not very clear, and it may in fact involve a number of different factors that all contribute to the resulting depression.

Most people assume that depression is caused by recent social or personal difficulties, but depression is caused by a range of internal and external factors. Research has shown that chronic problems, such as long-term unemployment or living with an abusive relationship, are more likely to cause depression than recent stressful situations.

Some types of depression, such as major depression, run in families, suggesting that some element of depression may be inherited. What exactly is inherited is not known but may include changes in brain structures or brain function, including changes to the physiological ability to respond to stress, and/or the influence of hormones.

Trauma and stress. Things like financial problems, the breakup of a relationship, or the death of a loved one can bring on depression. You can become depressed after changes in your life, like starting a new job, graduating from school, or getting married.

Pessimistic personality. People who have low self-esteem and a negative outlook are at higher risk of becoming depressed. These traits may actually be caused by low-level depression (called dysthymia).

The symptoms of depression include:

* lowered mood, feelings of sadness or emptiness

* changes in sleep

Depressed people may have difficulty falling asleep and typically wake up in the middle of the night and have difficulty resuming sleep. Depressed people may also find they wake early in the morning and can't resume sleep. Other depressed people find that they are sleeper longer than is usual for them at night or that they are having increased sleep during the daytime.

* marked increase or decrease in appetite and associated weight loss or weight gain

* Motor Problems - you may feel physically agitated and restless or slowed down in motion

* Fatigue - a general loss of energy or feeling like you are drained

* Worthlessness/Guilt - you may feel worthless or guilty about things that are outside of your control

* Foggy Headed - your ability to think seems decreased or your thinking seems clouded and you are unable to make any decisions

About the Author
Visit Herbal Remedies for more information. Stop using birth control.

You need to give your body a break. Depending on the type of birth control you use, it may take a while for the female reproductive system and the menstrual cycle to normalize and ensure the best conditions for attempting to conceive.

2. Start taking prenatal vitamins.

Folic acid is one of the B vitamins important for healthy growth of your unborn baby. It is essential to the normal development of your baby's spine, brain and skull, especially during the first four weeks of your pregnancy. It is, therefore important to start taking vitamin supplements with folic acid before you get pregnant to reduce the risk of neural tube defects.

3. Start eating right.

What you eat has a dramatic effect on your fertility, just as it does on your general health. By ensuring your daily nutritional, caloric and supplementary needs are met, and the fertility harming foods and drinks are avoided, you will greatly improve your chances of a fast and healthy conception.

4. Keep active

If you are not already active, start slowly. Regular exercise will raise fertility levels and help maintain reproductive vitality. If you're already active, continue with your program and make changes as you need them. Listen to your body as it changes from one month to the next. Do what is comfortable for you.

5. Quit drinking alcohol

The best time to quit is now. The body stores some harmful substances in fat and can take a month or more to eliminate them. Alcohol along with caffeine and nicotine are stimuli that will age the body prematurally. This stimuli can also affect sperm production and sperm quality. There is no safe amount or safe time to drink alcohol. If you drink while you are pregnant, you are at risk of giving birth to a baby with Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD). FASD may include behavioural problems or learning disabilities.

6. Quit smoking and get others around you to do the same.

As with Alcohol, nicotine is a stimuli which hinders fertility. When you smoke, or inhale second hand smoke, the baby get less oxygen and nutrients and this causes your baby to grow more slowly and gain less weight in your womb. Smoking is associated with prematurity and low birth weights, increased risk of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome(SIDS) and asthma.

7. Control your weight

If you've been too careful cutting back calories, or have been enjoying them too much then it's time to get back to your body type's correct weight. A balanced diet that includes all the food groups is key. Remember that you want to provide a healthy environment to nourish a baby. Pregnant or not, you're goal is eating for two now, not just yourself.

8. Check your immunity to rubella and chicken pox.

Your immunity can be checked easily with a blood test. This will avoid any concerns if you are exposed to them during pregnancy. Even if you have been vaccinated or had these while you were a child, knowing for sure is best.

9. Mental health is just as important as physical health.

Stress, emotional situation and exhaustion all effect how we eat, sleep and function. Delegate work and home responsibilities and reduce the stress. There is growing evidence that when you feel happy, secure, cared for and loved, your fertility can improve dramatically.

10. Family history and blood types for both mother and father

The blood type is very important. If the mother and father's blood type are not compatible, the fetus might not be compatible with the mother which can lead to anemia or RH disease. Treatment can administered if you know this during pregnancy

11. Prescription Medication

Review with your physician any prescription medication that you are taking before trying to get pregnant. You may have to stop some medications like drugs for heart disorder, blood thinners and some medications for depression and anxiety. In most cases there are alternate medications that you can take that are safe during pregnancy. Some prescription drugs also contain caffeine.

About the Author
Amelia Yap is a mother of three happy healthy children. It is the most widely treated skin disorder by dermatologists and strikes both teenagers and adults.
There are many different factors that contribute to acne including hormones, bacteria, and some genetic factors. It has even been suggested that acne is caused by a poor diet, which may hold some weight.

The acne and diet issue, as with most causes commonly attributed to acne outbreaks, has been studied for several years.

Even though some dermatologists claimed that diet has nothing to do with the formation of acne, many still hold that acne and diet are indeed linked as diet plays a role in the development of acne.

Here's a short explanation that will develop a relationship between acne and diet.

It has been suggested for many years that eating refined carbohydrates and sugar can cause acne outbreaks. It is proven however that eating these foods leads to a surge of insulin as well as an insulin-like growth factor known as IGF-1 in the body.

If this forms, it then can lead to an excess of male hormones, androgens, which are deemed as the most potent cause of the acne formation.

The acne and diet connection maintains that if an excess of male hormones is produced, the pores of the skin will secrete sebum or oil, which is a greasy substance that generally attracts the attention of acne causing bacteria.

In addition, this process triggers the IGF-1 to cause skin cells known as keratinocytes to duplicate and multiply, which in turn is a process related with the acne formation. According to one acne study, the appearance of acne is triggered by some environmental factors including diet. This study conducted on the acne cases in islanders of Papua New Guinea and hunter-gatherers of Paraguay found out that limiting grains is an integral step toward optimizing your health, which led the researchers to think that no-grain diet is somehow beneficial for acne.

Also, getting sufficient essential fatty acids may be important in clearing acne. It is these fatty acids that help control the production of androgens, the hormones that surge during the teen years, which cause excess sebum oil to clog your hair follicle and contribute to creating acne.

Good sources of omega-3 oil include albacore tuna, avocados, dark leafy green vegetables (spinach, mustard greens, kale), hemp seeds, walnuts, wheat germ oil, pumpkin seeds, sesame seeds, salmon and sardines.

As the acne and diet link continues as one of the hottest issues in the medical field, many have claim that there is too little research regarding the connection.

It has even been suggested that doctors and dermatologists only say that diet has nothing to do with acne because they can not sell you a healthy diet.

Perhaps diet is not the sole cause of acne but it never hurts to follow a good healthy diet plan as an overall health regimen.

About the Author
Discover the connection between your diet and acne at acne diet

What is Parkinson disease and what are it’s main causes?

Parkinson's disease (PD) is a chronic, progressive neurological disease that affects a part of the brain that produces dopamine, a chemical that tells muscles how to move. Generally, by the time the disease is diagnosed, up to 80 percent of the dopamine-producing neurons are no longer functioning.

Parkinson's diseases are a class of neurological disorders that affect the central nervous system by hindering muscle movement control and producing psychological problems. Symptoms of Parkinson's disease include shaking, tremors, and poor coordination. Parkinson's diseases most often affect people over the age of 50. Manganism, caused by excessive manganese exposure, is considered part of the class of Parkinson's diseases due to the similarity of symptoms. Learn more about manganese exposure.

The first concise description of the disorder known today as Parkinson's disease was provided by James Parkinson, a London general practitioner, in 1817.

Sleep disorders are common in Parkinson's disease (PD), as almost two thirds of PD patients report them. From a clinical point of view, they can be classified into disorders of initiation and maintenance of sleep (DIMS), parasomnias, and excessive daytime sleepiness (EDS). Among the causes of DIMS are degenerative changes in the CNS affecting centers for sleep regulation, persistence into the night of daytime PD-related symptoms, concomitant medical or psychiatric disease, disruption of circadian rhythms, and effects of dopaminergic (and other) medication on sleep regulation.

What are the causes of Parkinson's disease?

What causes PD is not known, there may be genetic causality, but the main pathological process involves degeneration of the SUBSTANTIA NIGRA, which is situated in the basal ganglia and is an area rich in dopamine cells. Dopamine is one of the major neurotransmitters, or naturally occurring chemicals, found in the brain. In PD there is a major depletion of dopamine, especially apparent in the fiber projection from the substantia nigra to the corpus striatum. Dopamine is believed to be the main, but not the only, neurotransmitter involved in PD. In PD, the underlying problem has to do with a neurotransmitter called dopamine. A small number of very specific brain cells make dopamine. Though only a few cells make dopamine, these cells send the neurotransmitter to many different regions of the brain. Changes in dopamine levels can have widespread effects within the brain.

When we are young, our brains make plenty of dopamine. As we get older, this amount decreases. In PD, the amount of dopamine becomes critically low. In PD, the amount of dopamine changes very slowly over time. This causes the very gradual worsening of movement. In early PD, as in this study, the symptoms may be mild.

Manganese and Parkinson''s disease have been linked in a number of studies done around the world. People who work with manganese often suffer from a variety of symptoms, known as manganism, which experts have classified as a Parkinson''s syndrome. Symptoms of manganese-related Parkinson''s include tremors, lethargy, impaired concentration, speech difficulties and awkward gait. Parkinson''s from manganese exposure continues to progress clinically even years later, when traces of manganese can no longer be detected in the body.

Some other causes of Parkinson's disease:

Encephalitis

Brain tumor

Head injury

Brain injury

Traumatic brain injury

Carbon monoxide poisoning

Hydrocephalus

Certain toxins or medications

About the Author
Read about Beauty Tips, Makeup Tips, Skin Care. When you are going through these experiences, understanding the difference will determine the treatment options that are available to you in order to deal with, and cure yourself of, either of these disorders.
** A Panic Attack **

A panic attack is a very sudden and instant overwhelming sense of doom and fear that affects both your body and your mind at the same time. The feeling is so intense and so physical that you might think you're having a heart attack, losing your mind, or that you are going to die. It is hard to imagine otherwise, because the symptoms you are experiencing are so pronounced and severe - such as your heart racing, sweating and nausea, serious difficulty drawing enough breathe, and a constant shaking.

A Panic attack develops very quickly, and within five to ten minutes the symptoms have all reached a peak and will stay there for several minutes to an hour or two. The central focus of your mind during this experience is on the severity of your physical symptoms. Most people who have had a panic attack for the very first time will end up in the emergency room because the physical effects are so severe and dramatic.

** An Anxiety Attack **

An anxiety attack is less pronounced as a panic attack in terms of physical symptoms and the sudden onset of them. Usually in an anxiety attack, the focus of your mind will be on a situation or event that is severely troubling you. The feeling of anxiety surrounding those thoughts will gradually build. It is possible for the anxiety surrounding that worry and concern to reach such a high level that you start to experience some physical symptoms.

At the point when anxiety reaches a climax, the symptoms are very similar to a panic attack. You will feel shaky and your heart will race. Your chest will feel tight and it will be somewhat difficult to breathe. The duration of those symptoms can also be about the same as a panic attack. However the severity of the symptoms is nowhere near the level of a full blown panic attack - and the focus of your mind is primarily the situation or event in your life that is severely troubling you such as loss of a job, or a death in the family.

** Suffering Two Attacks at Once **

It is possible for an anxiety attack to continue to build to the point where the worry and anxiety causes the severity of the physical symptoms to reach a point where the focus of your mind switches from the trouble or crisis in your life to the severity and intensity of the physical symptoms. This concern can build upon itself and quickly turn into a full-blown panic attack with severe breathing problems, sweating, rapid heartbeat, and an intense feeling of impending death.

** Treatment **

Since these two forms of disorder are different, the treatment that is offered will also be different for each of them.

Treatment for a panic attacks will probably include a low-dose sedative in the emergency room. This will provide a short term relief from the physical symptoms. Long term treatment for panic attacks will usually include some form of antidepressants at low doses.

Treatment for anxiety attacks would most likely include a normal dose of antidepressants in order to relieve the lingering thought patterns that have lead to the anxiety disorder.

Cognitive behavioral therapy is usually preferred by psychologists to treat both panic attacks as well as anxiety attacks. However, even then the techniques of the treatment are going to vary for the two different forms of attack. For panic attacks, "exposures" are usually used, which simply means that you are taught to retrain your mind regarding the events and situations that cause panic by exposing yourself whenever you can to those events and situations. Over time, when the expected doom never occurs, the panic subsides and attacks end. For anxiety, psychologists will always typically use relaxation and thought restructuring - however these techniques used for anxiety will also cure both disorders over the long term.

It is important that you understand the disorder that you are experiencing, however regardless of which disorder that you are experiencing - the most important thing is to receive the proper treatment to remove these stresses from your life. Only after treatment will you be able to fully enjoy and appreciate life, without having to worry about if, or when, the next attack will occur.

About the Author
George Goodman is an ex panic attack sufferer who now operates the website stopmypanicattack.com

Backache Is a Disorder That Is Easy to Prevent

Back-ache, an urban comfort malady, is primarily the result of bad posture and weak muscles. The awareness on the working of lower back will go a long way in its prevention. The five lumbar vertebrae responsible for the erect human form are also the primary culprits for the back ache. These are flexible to permit hundred and eighty degree flexion or strong enough to support the weight of another human. But trying to achieve both simultaneously and you have a recipe for disaster. The weight bearing posture is an erect posture, read on to know the nuances of the dynamics of the lower back.

The more important reason for the publication of this article is the realization on our part that back-care should be directed more at prevention of backache rather than its treatment. Prevention is better than cure. And backache is a disorder that is easy to prevent.

The working of the lower back:

Let us now focus our attention on the five lumbar vertebrae as regards their working. These vertebrae are the trouble¬makers, responsible, directly or indirectly, for most backaches. You will recall that the thoracic vertebrae are attached to the ribs forming a rigid and strong cage that protects the heart and lungs. On the other hand, the lumbar spine is designed primarily for movement, although it must also bear weight.

However, these two functions, i.e., moving the trunk and bearing weight cannot be easily carried out at the same time. If such an activity is carried out this combines lumbar movements with lifting weight. For example, a ballet dancer or a gymnast moving and holding a partner aloft, the lumbar region becomes susceptible or vulnerable to injury. Stacked one on top of another, the five lumbar vertebrae work as a unit, in a concerted manner, to permit forward bending, backward bending, etc. This working unit or column sits on a firm foundation or scaffolding called the pelvic platform. Our thigh bones, too, are attached to the sides of the pelvis. Therefore, the pelvis is the connecting structure between the spine and the hips of legs, i.e., between the top and the bottom halves of the body. Since the pelvis is the connecting and central point it acts like a pivot.

The position of the pelvis will control the position of the lumbar vertebras above it. If the pelvis is level or, .as we prefer to call it, balanced, the vertebrae above it will also be in a level or balanced position. This is the strongest position for the spine and makes it the least vulnerable to injury. However, if the pelvis is thrust forward, the vertebrae above it will curve out of alignment. Such out-of-alignment vertebrae cause wedging of the discs and potential discomfort to facet joints and make the spine weak and the back vulnerable to injury.

On the other hand, when the lumbar vertebrae are aligned properly because the pelvis is in a balanced position, pressure is taken off the discs, the facet joints are unloaded and maximum space is provided for the exit of nerve roots. This all-important 'pelvic balance' is a function of four groups of muscles. We shall learn more about these muscles soon.

The bones are the static, unchangeable part of the body. The muscles are the dynamic component, giving movement and life to the body. Back muscles play an important role in backache. They are controllable elements responding to the environment and controlled by our conscious thought processes. Composed of contractile fibers that are responsive to nerve-impulses, muscles comprise almost 40 per cent of our body weight and a large part of our body-bulk. There are some 140 muscles attached to the spine alone and they do a prodigious amount of work.

A muscle is basically a contractile tissue, i.e., it functions and tarries out messages by contracting or shortening and relaxing or lengthening. The more a muscle is used or worked, the more it develops and gains in strength. If it is not used as much as it should be, it weakens and becomes flabby or loose. If it is not used at all, it atrophies or wastes away.

Conclusion:

The ignorance about the working of lower back leads to a callous misuse or disuse of our more than 140 back muscles and the lumbar region. The misuse of the lumbar region, essentially wrong posture, is the major reason for the wedging of the discs and potential injury to the spine. The continued disuse of our back muscles, a gift of the modern ultra comfort life style, brings about their enfeeblement and more pressure passes on to the spine, increasing the chances of injury manifold. The back ache can be effectively prevented by adopting the pelvic balance postures as a routine and strengthening the muscles supporting it.

About the Author
Billy Mattgate writes for Free Health Articles where you can find more health tips and related articles.

Your Ad on 100's of Engines
$4 per Month or less
Goldshield Elite Health Helps
Quality natural health products for increased energy and aids to prevent serious problems. Our society today equates being thin with being beautiful. This sets people, women especially, up for failure. It is not possible for the average person to attain the weight of the super-skinny models and stars while remaining healthy. Unfortunately, some people turn to extreme measures to try to attain the unattainable. This includes two specific eating disorders: anorexia nervosa and bulimia nervosa. In a nutshell, anorexia is deliberately starving yourself and bulimia is the binging/purging cycle. Each disorder is treated differently.

For both disorders, the sooner the person receives treatment, the more likely the treatment is to be successful. Eating disorders are extremely complex diseases and treatment is also complex, involving medical care, monitoring, psychological treatment, nutrition counseling and sometimes medication. It is important that a health care professional help treat the person, as sometimes hospitalization is necessary.

There are three phases to treating anorexia. First, the sick person needs to have their weight restored. This is not easy, as there are extreme underlying psychological issues that have to be overcome before the person is even able to eat. Sometimes they need to be fed intravenously. During this stage, the person needs to be highly monitored. Next, treat the underlying psychological issues. Such issues might be a distorted body image or low self-esteem. Often there is a reason such as past abuse or teasing. Once these issues have been addressed, it is time to strive towards long-term recovery. Treating anorexia is an extremely long process and should not be taken lightly. It is often helpful to include the family in the healing process. Sometimes members of the family have contributed unknowingly to the problem and often the family members are crucial to the healing.

The goal of treating bulimia is to stop the cycle of binging and then purging. Start with nutritional intervention. Eliminate the binge food and watch the patient carefully to ensure they are eating well-balanced meals and not purging. Then seek psychological treatment. It is important to address the underlying concerns that are causing the problem. It is also important to establish a proper eating patter. Exercise should be encouraged in moderation. Extreme exercise can be another symptom of bulimia, as it is the patient's way of trying to purge the calories they consumed. If there is an anxiety disorder associated with the sickness, this may be treatable using medication. Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors are the types of medication that seem to really help bulimia patients and prevent the condition from reoccurring.

One particular problem with getting a person suffering from an eating disorder from seeking treatment is that the person often has trouble admitting or recognizing that they have a problem. When you suggest to them that they need help, they may fight the suggestion strongly. It is important that you not give in to their arguments. You know they need help and, as someone who loves them, it is your responsibility to make sure they receive that help!

Michael Russell

Your Independent guide to Eating Disorders

Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/?expert=Michael_Russell

How Insomnia Make You Ugly

I have a friend who wants to get her chin tucked -- a couple of them anyway. I stumbled across an article the other day linking double chins and snoring, so I went out on a search for all the ways insomnia might result in physical characteristics many people in the West would not associate with "beauty."
I haven't yet found again the article on thick necks and sleep apnea. I've found several that say people with think necks (which would mostly be men) often snore, because as they age the ability of their muscles to keep their throat's soft tissue from collapsing on itself during sleep is reduced.

I've not yet read enough to find out whether snoring can also cause a thick neck. Of course, snoring is not necessarily a sleep disorder, nor does it necessarily accompany insomnia. To be a disorder, the person has to miss breaths. To be insomnia, the person has to be awake -- which you wish they would do when they start snoring!

Obesity --

There's one that gets attention. It's fairly well understood that hormones affect sleep. For example, women progressing through menopause may experience great periods of insomnia because of the changes in their estrogen levels.

After menopause, their progesterone is higher in proportion to estrogen than previously, and that's the time many women begin to snore. They also begin to gain weight. And get thicker necks. While there are several causes for that, here's one you may not have heard of.

Two hormones -- leptin and ghrelin -- may significantly affect how much we eat. One of them, leptin, tells us when we're full: stop eating, you're satisfied!

The other one, ghrelin (which I like to call gremlin) stimulates appetite.

When we miss sleep, for whatever reason, leptin (stop eating) falls while ghrelin (you're starving) increases. Consequently, you feel hungry, unsatisfied and still munching. The ultimate result is weight gain.

This is why almost all men are thicker and have thick necks as they reach middle age and beyond. They snore; therefore, they gain weight. (It isn't the snoring itself; it's the "not sleeping soundly" when you're snoring.)

This affects aging in the reverse. Older people don't get enough really deep sleep (REM). Therefore, their hormonal systems aren't restored and reset. They feel satisfied and not hungry. Malnutrition is a huge problem among the elderly and it begins with not getting good quality sleep!

Diabetes --

OK, being diabetic may not make you ugly, but if you're single and dating, it could raise a caution flag! Inadequate sleep can prevent the proper processing of glucose, causing high blood sugar levels. Looping back to the weight problem, excess glucose is then stored as fat, and in some people's minds, that makes you ugly.

Stupidity --

Can you just not pull up a name you know? Can't bring it to mind? Or you say something to a colleague and it sounds like you're drunk or on allergy medication?

There are significant mental effects to sleep deprivation, including slurred speech, inabilities to problem solve, speak coherently or learn something new. In extreme instances, a person can experience hallucinations or go mad. (Remember, keeping people from sleeping and dreaming is a typical torture technique; this is why. And even if you can still function, you might be torturing your comrades!)

Emotional wreck --

I may be stretching physical side effects of insomnia to include emotions, but this is one more thing that make you less attractive to others. Did you know sleep deprivation has been linked as one of the primary contributors to road rage? In other words, if you signal to a driver of a car weaving across the line ahead of you, he might pull beside you and shoot you because he's sleepy--the same reason he was weaving!

This could also be an indicator in the glass-half-full-half-empty set. Sleep deprived people are more pessimistic. (Watch for doom and gloom amongst the thick neck set. Maybe this is why people think dads are realists and moms are optimists!)

Skin --

Skin is refreshed and renewed during sleep. Did you know skin is an organ? The largest organ in the body. Without adequate sleep, your skin will look older and drier. "Beauty sleep" is called that for a reason. It gives the face (and whole body) time to relax, to let go of wrinkles. Like good sex, adequate sleep can help you emerge fresh and glowing.

If these don't convince you you're ugly when you don't get enough sleep, think about how ugly you feel when you're tired and how ugly all the rest of the world looks to you.

Now relax, and get some sleep.

About the Author
Holothink offers many products designed to help you improve your mental functioning. It is said that sensational sex rejuvenates the mind and the body; it builds up self esteem and upholds flourishing relationships. But what will you do if the mind is very willing but "little Johnny" refuses to cooperate? You can just imagine the mental anguish a person will feel if in the throes of passion the penis would suddenly lose its vigor. Erectile dysfunction or impotence is a sexual disorder characterized by the inability to develop an erection or to maintain a long lasting erection needed for a satisfactory sexual intercourse. To put it simply, men suffering from this sexual disorder can not have an erection or can not sustain the erection in order to have sex with his partner.

There is nothing new about this sexual disorder, as men are known to suffer from this malady once or twice in their lifetime. Discussion about the issue however, is limited to jokes because impotence is a big blow on the manhood of a person. Although erectile dysfunction is not a lethal disease, it is necessary not only for a man but for a woman as well to learn the facts about this sexual disorder as the knowledge can aid in the attainment of sexual satisfaction.

If an erection dysfunction is complete the sexual disorder is known as impotence. Some men would experience temporary erectile dysfunction due to illnesses or at times as a result of medications. Other factors like anxiety or emotional distress could result to partial ED. Health and emotional causes of ED can be cured. Given that different causes would need different cures, it is of utmost importance to properly diagnose the reason for ED.

Impotence for a healthy male could mean the onset of cardiovascular disease or diabetes. A cardiovascular disease narrows the blood vessels. No erection would result if the blood flow is restricted. In a diabetic patient impotence would result when the nerve that communicates between the brain and the penis collapse. Depression, stress and other emotional problems can also lead to impotence.

Although impotence is not a dangerous disease, it could wreak emotional havoc, destroy confidence and self esteem. It is also the root cause of many destroyed relationship. Fortunately, modern man has many options to cure erectile dysfunction. Pills to treat impotence are readily available. And if that is not enough there are also herbs guaranteed to cure erectile dysfunction. By taking action to first discover the causes of impotence, and then treating it, men can not only come to terms with the condition but they can beat it too.

About the Author

For more information on effective male impotence treatments visit Bali Mojo Direct

About Acne, itsTypes & Symptoms

Acne is a chronic disorder of the hair follicles and sebaceous glands. Some of the characteristics of acne include black heads, pimples, cysts, infected abscesses, and rarely scarring. Acne usually occurs during adolescence in both men and women. To be more specific, acne starts during puberty and tends to get worse for people with oily skin. Acne badly affects teenage boys. Only mild to moderate forms of acne occur in middle-aged women. Acne can be seen most commonly on the face. The other places where it can occur include the neck, chest, back, shoulders, scalp, and upper arms and legs. Most forms of acne are the result of heredity and hormonal problems and has nothing to do with a harmful diet or poor hygiene.

Types of acne

Acne starts in a similar way for all but can take different forms and can react in a unique way according to the body conditions of the individual. A basic lesion called the comedo is the begining of acne. The comedo is an enlarged hair follicle plugged with oil and bacteria residing under the surface of your skin, that waits for the right conditions to grow into an inflamed lesion. Whenever the skin produces more oil, the bacteria grows within the swollen follicle. The surrounding skin becomes increasingly inflamed as your white blood cells fight against the intruders. Two main types of acne include non-inflammatory acne and inflammatory acne.

Non-inflammatory acne

Closed comedo:

If the plugged follicle stays below the surface of the skin, the lesion is called a closed comedo. This usually appears on the skin as small, whitish bumps. This condition is otherwise called as whitehead.

Open comedo :

If the plug enlarges and pushes through the surface of the skin, the lesion is called an open comedo. The dark appearance of the plug is not due to dirt, but due to the buildup of melanin, the pigmentation element of the skin. This condition is otherwise called as blackhead.

Inflammatory acne

Papule:

This appears on the skin as a small, firm pink bump. The papules are tender in nature and are often considered an intermediary step between non-inflammatory and clearly inflammatory lesions.

Pustule:

These are small round lesions that are inflamed and contain visible pus, which appear red at the base with a yellowish or whitish center. Pustules do not contain a large amount of bacteria. The inflammation is caused by chemical irritation from sebum components such as fatty free acids.

Cyst:

These are large pus-filled lesions that are usually present deep within the skin. The cysts are very painful lesions, as they are inflamed. Cysts form as a result of the contents of a comedo spilling over the surrounding skin and due to the response of the local immune system in producing pus. The cysts often leave deep scars.

Acne conglobata:

This is a rare but serious form of inflammatory acne that develops primarily on the back, buttocks, and chest. In addition, to the presence of pustules and cysts, there may be severe bacterial infection.

Symptoms

The common symptoms of acne include persistent, recurrent red spots or swellings on the skin known as pimples. The pimples become inflamed and get filled with pus. The pimples usually occur on the face, chest, shoulders, neck, or upper portion of the back. Some of the other symptoms include dark spots with open pores at the center, which are known as blackheads, bulged spots under the skin without openings, which are known as whiteheads, and red swellings or lumps filled with pus, which are known as pustules. The pustules can develop from blackheads or whiteheads. Inflamed fluid-filled lumps under the skin known as cysts are also a symptom of acne. These cysts can become as large as an inch across.

AcneFree.com

About the Author

AcneFree.com

Tips On coping for people dealing with fibromyalgia symptoms

This is a syndrome that as of now is affecting nearly 7 to 10 million adult Americans. Accidental injury can be an explanation of symptoms under certain circumstances. This disorder can be characterized by wide spread body aches, stiffness and poor quality of sleep.Other Experiences include an amount of depression and anxiety also.Individuals may experience an impeadiance of their quality of life to a certain extent

due to the tremendous frustration with irritable bowel syndrome, tension and Migration. There are a few tips however to coping with Fibromyalgia symptoms

Reduce Stress

Stress is an inevitable part of life. Research suggests that people having fibromyalgia experience more stress than any normal individuals. In addition, research also suggests that most of the fibromyalgia patients have 'Type A' personality, which means they aim for more in life than many others. So, a better coping strategy with fibromyalgia symptoms is to reduce stress. And not coincidentally, many of the biggest selling alternative natural remedies are herbs used to treat these same health problems.

What follows is a list of the most common and effective herbal remedies that can be used in the treatment of these conditions.

1) Garlic (Allium Sativum)

Garlic's reputation as an effective herbal remedy that can be used in the treatment of many conditions has been known for centuries.

In the treatment of high cholesterol, garlic is particularly effective due to its high sulphur content. Sulphur has the affect of decreasing "bad" cholesterol (LDL) while increasing "good" cholesterol (HDL). The specific action that causes this is the decreased formation of plaque in our arteries and blood vessels due to decreased clotting factors. In this way garlic is not only an excellent herbal remedy for high cholesterol, it is also an excellent general circulatory system herb as well.

2) Maca (Lepidium Meyenii)

Sexual dysfunction and loss of libido is becoming more and more common. One of the most powerful herbs (with scientific research to support its claims) to help restore normal sexual function in both men and women is Maca.

Maca's reputation is such that it is known as "Peruvian Viagra". Unfortunately this leads many people to assume that Maca is for men only, which is not the case at all as Maca is very effective in the treatment of loss of libido and frigidity in women.

For men, as the "Peruvian Viagra" label would indicate, Maca is very effective in the treatment of erectile dysfunction and has been shown to increase levels of testosterone leading to increased levels of energy and vigour in men of all ages.

3) St John's Wort (Hypericum Perforatum)

The herbal remedy most people think of when it comes to treating depression is St John's Wort.

Recent scientific research has shown that St John's Wort can help to reduce dramatically the signs and symptoms of depression and anxiety. Additionally, it can be used in the treatment of generalized stress, sleeping difficulties, lack of energy and premenstrual stress disorders.

The active ingredient, Hypericin, has been shown to be an effective natural alternative for more conventional ant-depressants such as Prozac and Zoloft.

4) White Willow Bark (Salix Alba)

For the treatment of pain there are a number of effective herbal remedies than can be used as substitutes for medications such as aspirin and anti-inflammatory drugs.

White Willow Bark is often referred to as "herbal aspirin" due to the fact that its active ingredient, salacin, is the main chemical component of aspirin. The salicylic acid in White Willow Bark decreases the levels of prostaglandins in the body that can be the cause of inflammation and pain.

Wherever you would take an aspirin, White Willow Bark can be used as a natural alternative.

5) Hawthorn Berries (Crataegus Oxyacanthoides)

These are one of the most powerful herbal remedies in the treatment of any blood and circulatory disorder. The remedy has a strong, yet gentle, normalizing affect on the heart, strengthening it when needed and sedating when appropriate.

As a circulatory tonic, Hawthorn Berries are most often used in the treatment of high blood pressure, arteriosclerosis and angina.

If you are looking to incorporate herbal medicine in the treatment of any disease or dysfunction, the easiest and safest way to do so is to look for a health care professional trained in not only the use of natural alternative medicine, but also someone with training and understanding in conventional pharmaceutical medications.

While there is almost always a safe and natural herbal alternative to most drugs, if you are presently taking pharmaceutical medication of any kind, before making any changes or modifications to your treatment program you will need to consult with your health care professional.

About the Author
Kim Archer is publisher of The Internet Spa at http://www.internet-spa.com. Fish and fish oil supplements supply us with the Omega 3 fatty acids that are needed for heart and brain health. Even the American Heart Association strongly endorses the use of fish oil for cardiovascular health. Why? Because those with diets rich in these fats are less likely to have high blood pressure or irregular heart rhythms, and are less likely to die from heart attacks or strokes.
Omega 3 fatty acids are also beneficial for brain health. The human brain is more than sixty percent structural fat. But, the type of fat needed for the brain to function properly is Omega 3 fatty acids. According to recent research, decreasing your intake of Omega 6 fats (primarily vegetable oils) along with increasing Omega 3 fatty acids, reduces the risk of depression, aggressive behavior, attention deficit disorder, schizophrenia and lowers your risk of developing Alzheimer's. Other current studies with these fats have shown benefits with regards to cancer, inflammatory diseases, diabetes and other health related conditions.

Of course we all know that there are good fats and bad fats. Any artificially produced fat, called trans fats, are not good for us and saturated fats should always be kept at a minimum.

But there is a type of fat called EFA's (Essential Fatty Acids) that are not only good for you but essential for normal growth and development. Furthermore, your body can't manufacture them, so you must get them from your diet. Essential Fatty Acids are polyunsaturated and are grouped into Omega 6 and Omega 3's.

Although both types of Omegas are essential for health, experts agree that our diet ratio of Omega 6 to Omega 3 fatty acids is greatly unbalanced. While our ancestor's diets consisted of a diet ratio of Omega 6 to Omega 3 of about 1:1, our modern dietary habits now reflect a ratio closer to 20:1 to 50:1.

According to Dr. Donald Rudin, author of Omega 3 Oils, fatty acids are the main structural components of every cell membrane in the body, and therefore influence every process in the cell. He concludes that a balanced intake of essential fatty acids is necessary for both healthy cell function and a sense of well-being.

The permeability of the cell depends on the essential fatty acids. This allows nutrients into the cell and toxins to escape. When we rely on other fats to do the job required of Omegas 3 fats the structure of the membrane of each cell becomes stiff and unable to remain healthy enough to do its job.

The primary sources of Omega 6 fats are canola, soy, corn, safflower and sunflower oil. These oils are overabundant in the typical diet, which explains our excess Omega 6 levels. Omega 3 fats are typically found in flaxseed, walnuts and fish.

The fatty acids found in cold-water fish, such as tuna, salmon, trout and mackerel consists of DHA (docosahexaenoic acid) and EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid). These in the form of ALA (alpha-linolenic acid) can be found in flaxseed and walnut oils, and seaweed. However, the body must convert ALA to DHA and EPA to derive the heart & brain healthy benefit. This conversion however, is often difficult for some people to make. Therefore getting your fat acids directly from cold water fish or fish oil supplements may be your best bet.

About the Author
Darlene is a health advocate and an IE in the 1st Network Marketing Co. to offer an Ayurvedic product that has the full endorsement of the Chopra Ctr for Wellbeing. First and foremost, is it in fact a yeast related rash? Those who have had this type of condition before are fairly competent in self diagnosing but if you suspect you have a yeast infection but have not had one in the past, it is wise to be sure before taking treatment measures.
Recurring Yeast Rashes

If you are someone who has repeated yeast infections or rashes it might be time for you to take a closer look at candida and how it's impacting your life. It's also wise to look at how you can take yeast infection treatment from a repetitive thing to a proactive approach so it doesn't continue to impact your health and your pocket.

What is a yeast infection?

A yeast infection is the overgrowth of candida albicans. While we all have a certain amount of these critters in our systems, an overgrowth results in a whole host of unpleasant symptoms. Yeast infection symptoms can include a yeast rash, diaper rash, oral thrush and a whole host of other symptoms like food cravings, irritability, sinus problems, headaches and listlessness. Some people even suffer from other symptoms including sexual dysfunction, food allergies, increased PMS symptoms, acne, memory problems and lowered immune system. When you get a yeast infection, treatment is important. Not only should you treat the symptoms though, you need to also treat the cause for the problem as well.

Yeast infection treatment might be more than just a yeast rash cream or ointment. It might even involve changing the way you eat or taking additional supplements to create a more harmonious pH balance in your body. Be very careful about home remedies for yeast infection rashes listed on the internet. Some dangerous recommendations are listed including the use of boric acid which can be extremely dangerous.

Using over the counter medication can temporarily stop a yeast infection, get rid of the yeast rash and help symptoms subside. What might also be helpful is reducing yeast causing food as well as taking probiotic supplements especially after taking antibiotics. Because antibiotics kill all the bacteria in your gut you rid your digestive system of positive bacteria and when the good guys are gone, the bad guys can take over. It's wise to take precautions against potential candida infections when you know take antibiotics and getting to the cause of the repeated infections can increase the likely hood of keeping candida symptoms and yeast related rashes away for good.

While yeast infections are considered a nuisance to most and rarely serious for the average person, the fact is that repetitive yeast infections are a sign of something being 'off' in your body. If your immune system is compromised such as with HIV/AIDS then a yeast infection could be potentially dangerous. Systemic candidiasis is rare but can be fatal so again recurring yeast infections need to be closely investigated.

About the Author
If you want help learning about reasons for a yeast rash, yeast infection treatment and information to help you prevent recurring yeast infection rash, visit Candida-Solutions.

Bad Breath - What is Delusional Halitosis?

The phrase delusional halitosis is somewhat self-explanatory. Delusional means something that is only in your mind, and halitosis means bad breath. So then, what is it? It refers to the thought or fear that you have bad breath when in reality you don't.

This disorder affects approximately 1% of the population or less, so it is not a common disorder, however, it's thought that the majority of patients that seek treatment for halitosis have this disorder- in other words, they believe that they have a problem when they really don't.

The question of whether you have this disorder may arise when one considers the physical delusions that are more common such as delusional skin infestation by insects, and body dysmorphic disorder, where one thinks that their hands or limbs are not really theirs, or are constantly disappointed with their own looks. Persons with body dysmorphic disorder may become addicted to plastic surgery or other such procedures.

Body dysmorphic disorder may also manifest itself with the thoughts that there is something wrong with one's body when there isn't. A sufferer can become obsessed with these thoughts to the point of visiting physicians constantly and needlessly.

So, what is delusional halitosis in relation to these other physical delusions? A very real thought that one's breath is so bad that is making one sick or making other people sick. Just like someone with the delusional thoughts of one's skin is infested with insects really sees and feels those insects, these sufferers really smell what they think is bad breath.

Is This a True Phobia?

It's important to remember that this is very similar or identical to halitophobia, the fear of exhaling because you think you have bad breath. The two go hand-in-hand. When you understand what is this disorder, you understand how someone can develop a phobia against exhaling or speaking.

Phobias are not to be taken lightly. Imagine any real fear that most people have- fear of heights, fear of snakes, fear of enclosed places, and so on. No one would easily dismiss another person's fear of snakes so easily. When considering what is delusional halitosis, realize that the fear can be just as real and just as debilitating. There is no time when you are not breathing and exhaling. Having a fear of one's own mouth and breath can be devastating and render one almost incapacitated.

What is Sufferers' Quality of Life?

Delusional halitosis can become a full-blown phobia and can begin to interfere with one's job or life in general. Some who have this phobia avoid work and any other social situation in general. They may lose their job and have difficulties with intimate physical relationships. They avoid any social situation that brings them into close contact with others.

Bear in mind that some with this disorder have been found to be abusive of oral hygiene products, overusing mouthwashes and rinses. Some are so obsessed with cleaning their teeth that they floss and brush until they are raw and bleeding. Many seek repeated treatment for bad breath, causing them to be over-treated by doctors. Since harsh chemicals, mouthwashes and rinses can actually dry one's mouth and aggravate oral problems and cause bad breath, this becomes a never-ending circle of treatment, phobia, treatment, phobia, and so on.

When considering this disorder's risk in terms of physical health, you see how much damage can be done to one's teeth and gums, and when this happens, it's not unusual for the mouth to become infected and tooth loss to occur. Open sores and wounds of the mouth are breeding grounds for bacteria and infection.

What is This Related to Olfactory Reference Syndrome?

Olfactory Reference Syndrome (ORS) is an overly excessive concern for one's body odors, and delusional halitosis may fall under this category. Persons with ORS believe that they have a foul or excessive body odor, despite any evidence or reassurance to the contrary. They too can have shame, embarrassment, social avoidance disorders, distress, depression and the like.

So when asking what is delusional halitosis, it's good to remember that it may be just an offshoot or manifestation of ORS, and the two can be treated as the same. ORS and delusional halitosis are sometimes also thought to be manifestations of body dysmorphic disorder, or being obsessed with the thought that there is something wrong with one's body when there really isn't.

What is The Possible Treatment?

It's sad that only a handful of doctors have addressed this problem and acknowledged the need for treatment. Many patients are dismissed, as are those with phobias that are outside the norm. However, when discussing what the cause of this disorder and realizing the difficulty that its sufferers can have in everyday life, and realizing that this is a true-blown phobia, doctors would then be taking the first step toward treating it properly. Many persons with phobias are treated with anti-anxiety medications or antidepressants. Prozac and Xanax are two popular prescriptions for those with depression or anxiety, and both seem to work well for most patients. However, there is a risk of dependency with both, so you would need to make a decision about whether or not you want to take that risk, and be sure you're in constant communication with your doctor.

When considering what is delusional halitosis' treatment options without medication, cognitive behavior therapy, or training oneself to think and feel differently, can also be successful. Patients are taught to think differently about the situation or circumstance that gives them fear, and learn to talk themselves out of their phobias, so to speak. Only a doctor or therapist can successfully treat those with delusional halitosis. If searching for a physician, make sure he or she really understands what this disorder is all about and is willing to treat it rather than dismiss it, or that he or she specializes in phobias of all types.

Do you have halitophobia?
